Introduction to Quantitative Biology

BIO213
4

This course will discuss some fundamental aspects of cellular and molecular biology as studied by quantitative approaches. Some simple mathematical/statistical and computational tools will be taken up to carry out quantitative analysis of biological systems. In addition, studnets will be introduced to systems biology, network biology and biomedical applications. Part of the learning will be achieved through study of relevant papers (and online resources) and class discussions.

  • Students are able to explain basics of cellular and molecular biology, systems biology and biology of diseases
  • Students have some knowledge of constructing quantitative models for a given biological problem and implementing solving methods
  • Students have some profieciency in correlating biological data using statistical data analysis
  • Students are able to apply quantitative tools for studying biological systems
  • Students are able to utilize the knowledge gained from this course in more advanced topics
