Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging tool that enables people to rethink how we integrate information, analyze data, and use the resulting insights to improve decision making. However, AI also poses some challenges and risks that need to be addressed carefully. Some of the common challenges in AI are: (a) Trust Deficit to their internal logic and reasoning for the lack of explainability, (b) Limited Knowledge because of incompleteness, inaccuracy, outdated, or biased data, may produce erroneous or unfair results, and (c) Social and Ethical Issues: AI systems may have social and ethical impacts on human society, such as displacing jobs, exacerbating inequalities, influencing behaviors, or affecting human dignity and rights. These issues require careful consideration and regulation to ensure that AI is used for good and not for evil.
Researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society need to work together to meaningfully address these challenges in the Artificial Intelligence driven world, so that we can harness the potential of AI for good while minimizing its risks and harms. This discussion will also aim to evolve a perspective for India to not miss the opportunity of this all-encompassing technology.
