SDG RESEARCH
At IIITD, our dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) finds expression in a tri-fold approach:
1) Pioneering Sustainability Research: Our commitment to the SDGs is vividly demonstrated through the research initiatives undertaken by our esteemed faculty members. These research endeavors, spanning disciplinary and interdisciplinary domains, hold profound significance for the SDGs. While certain SDGs feature prominently, our projects collectively address a wide spectrum of sustainability and development-related challenges. For the period spanning 2016 to 2021, our research data reveals that 19 projects were dedicated to directly addressing the challenges associated with SDG Number 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Likewise, SDG Number 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG Number 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) were central to 18 and 19 research projects, respectively. Additionally, several other projects, including those focused on Partnership for Goals, Gender Equity and Empowerment, Sustainable Agriculture, and Climate Action, were integral parts of our research portfolio. To gain deeper insights into the alignment of our research with the SDGs, please refer to the detailed chart below.
2) Engaging in Sustainability Outreach: As part of our SDGs Initiative, we host the annual Digital Delhi Conclave, a cornerstone of our outreach efforts. Each edition of this event spotlights a specific Sustainable Development Goal, convening policymakers, scientists, technology experts, government officials, the general public, and students on a common platform. The primary objective is to facilitate solution-oriented dialogues centered on the chosen SDG. In recent years, the Digital Delhi Conclaves have delved into themes such as 'Good Health and Well-Being,' 'Urban Science for Sustainable Cities and Communities,' and 'Climate Action for a Sustainable Urban Future.' Following each conclave, we diligently prepare actionable white papers, sharing them with policymakers for informed decision-making.
3) Implementing Sustainability in Action: At IIITD, environmental and sustainability considerations actively inform our institutional decision-making processes. We are committed to fostering an environmentally sustainable campus. With India's renewed commitment to global climate action, we are proactively working to develop a comprehensive climate action plan tailored to the unique needs and challenges of our institute.
At IIITD, our commitment to the SDGs is not a mere proclamation; it is an unwavering pledge deeply ingrained in the ethos of our institution. We wholeheartedly embrace our role in actively contributing to the global pursuit of a sustainable and equitable future. Our actions speak volumes about our resolute dedication to this noble cause.
