Profile
Dr. Garima Rani completed her PhD in biophysics from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai in 2021. She was awarded the Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) Cross-Disciplinary Fellowship in 2021, which she took up at the University of Luxembourg from 2021-2023 and at the Friedrich Schiller University (FSU) Jena in 2024-25. Her research integrates computational modeling, biophysical techniques, and imaging to understand bacterial growth and form, from subcellular to colony scale. She has published extensively in this and other topics and has presented her work in multiple conferences in India, Europe and elsewhere. Her current research interests lie in antibiotic resistance, microbiome dynamics and fundamental questions related to bacterial structure and evolution. She has received multiple awards, including DST Inspire Scholarship, CSIR Research Fellowship and EMBO travel grant. She has held short term visiting positions at places including TIFR Hyderabad and MBI, NUS Singapore. Beyond research, she has served as a reviewer for several journals, including Springer Nature and ACS Journals, and contributed to teaching graduate courses on statistical mechanics, ML based image analysis methods and physics of living matter.
