J.V. Meenakshi was, until recently, a Professor at the Dept. Of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi.  Her research areas include the economics of health, nutrition and food; agricultural markets; and causal evaluations of agricultural, labour and nutrition interventions.  Her research is policy-oriented; and the geographical focus of her work extends beyond India to include several countries in sub-Saharan Africa.  It is informed by active collaborations with nutritionists, medical professionals, and policy makers, and uses a mix of field-based research and nationally-representative data sets.  She has served on various national and international committees, including as a member of India's National Statistical Commission, and the Standing Panel on Impact Assessment of the International Science and Partnership Council of the CGIAR. She is a co-editor of Food Policy and of the Indian Economic Review.
