J.V. Meenakshi is an agricultural economist. Her research areas include the economics of rural health, nutrition and food; agricultural and water markets; and causal evaluations of agricultural, labour and nutrition interventions.  Her research is policy-oriented; and the geographical focus of her work extends beyond India to include several countries in sub-Saharan Africa.  It is informed by active collaborations with nutritionists, medical professionals, and policy makers, and uses a mix of field-based research and multiple nationally-representative data sets.  She has served on various national and international committees, including as a member of India's National Statistical Commission. She is a co-editor of Food Policy.
